A Guide to the Glossary.
The glossary is a simple dictionary of terms you will find in Buddhism. Each entry is either:
- A short, basic, plain English introduction. Or
- A link to another entry that means the same thing.
I follow the usage in the Oxford Dictionary of Buddhism[1]. So, for example, you'll find:
- "Anitya" is the entry with a definition.
- "Anicca" links to "Anitya".
- "Impermanence", the usual English translation, also links to "Anitya".
- "Transience", another English translation, also links to "Anitya".
In this example, this is because the Oxford Dictionary of Buddhism lists it under "anitya".
You can find links to the individual glossary pages below. Each page has entries under the initial letter. So, "A" lists all glossary entries beginning with A.
Each glossary entry will end with links to any:
- Introductory cards.
- Introductory talks.
- Intermediate cards.
- Intermediate talks.
- Advanced cards.
- Advanced talks.
- Wikipedia entry.
You may not find an entry you're looking for. This is because I haven't included it yet. This is so, even if you've clicked a link to it elsewhere. It's simply easier for me to do so, and then update the glossary. Updating the glossary and then going back to change every page or post would be impossible! So, if you can't find an entry today, try again at a later date.
Please note: I will be adding a comprehensive list of sources as a new page in the near future. There you will be able to assess the quality of my information sources for yourself, and can go on to explore them too.
