Please note that this privacy policy may change without notice. If I make a change, I will usually put it on the "what's new" page. Web: whatsnew.shtml

What I do.

When you visit my website, I:

  • Will not put a cookie on your computer.
  • Will not personally keep a record of your visit (but see below).

When you contact me by e-mail, I:

  • Will keep a copy of your e-mail unless:
    • You ask me not to; and
    • I believe I do not have to keep it. For example, if I do not believe I have to keep it by law.

The main reason I keep e-mails is for quality control. I invite e-mail contact about problems accessing web pages. If you don't want me to keep the e-mail, please tell me.

What my Host Does.

This is what my host, Namehog.net, says about its use of logs and cookies. Web: http://www.namehog.net

Log Files.

Like most standard Websites, NameHog Ltd. use log files. This information may include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyse trends, administer the site, track user's movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. However, none of the information stored in the log files, including but not limited to IP addresses, is linked to personally identifiable information. We only use the log files to produce charts or visitor statistics for internal use.

What are Cookies?

A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about the user. NameHog Ltd. may use both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. For session ID cookies, once you close your browser or log out, the cookie terminates and is erased. A persistent cookie is a small text file stored on your computer’s hard drive for an extended period of time. Your browser’s help file contains information and instructions for removing persistent cookies. Session ID cookies may be used by NameHog Ltd. to track user preferences while the user is visiting the website. They also help to minimise load times and save on server processing. Persistent cookies may be used by NameHog Ltd. to store, for example, whetheror not you want your password remembered, or other such information. Cookies used on the NameHog Ltd. Website do not contain personally identifiable information.

Records of Your Visits.

As said above, my host automatically keeps some records of your visit. These are called "server logs". I have access to some of these records. They do record the IP address of your computer. Most dial-up users have different addresses at different times. But if you have an "always on" connection, this may be the same at all times. Broadband users and most corporate users usually have this kind of "fixed IP address".

Please note that I have no control over whether you have a fixed IP address. I also have no control over my host logging your computer's address. I also have no control over their use of this information.

Unless directed by law, I make no use of this information except:

  • To keep general records of which part of the world visitors come from.
  • To keep general records on their use of my website. These include:
    • Which pages are visited.
    • How long visitors stay.
    • What search terms they use in search engines.

In short, I only use this information for quality control. I will not pass that information on to a third party, except if required by law. My host keeps this information secure.
